In Großriedenthal on the Wagram Ridge, there is a winery which eludes easy description; a place where change is the only constant and an open mind the default attitude. This is what makes the Eschenhof Holzer Winery and its wines unique – both within their wine region and beyond.

VINTER
ARNOLD HOLZER
Arnold Holzer has not taken the straight and narrow path to wine making, but rather the road less travelled. He has come to understand wine making as a process: one which flows along upon creativity, craft and the sheer pleasure of a vocation which is always reinventing itself. Every vintage is a waymarker and every wine a step along the way.
WINERY
ESCHENHOF
PLACE
GROSSRIEDENTHAL
Großriedenthal lies in a quiet spot, off the beaten track on the northernmost edge of the Wagram Ridge. From here, wide-ranging views extend across the landscape and into the distance. For such a small place, it has a surprising number of organic winemakers, all influenced by their close connection to wine, the natural world and agriculture.
WINE REGION
WAGRAM
"A wine is never finished – it keeps evolving with every vintage."
Wagram is known for deep loess soils made up of fine sand and silt sediments, which provide a foundation for fruity wines, full of character. At the same time, this region offers generous leeway for a range of varieties and styles – an advantage which Arnold Holzer makes determined use of.
VINEYARD
ALTWEINGARTEN, 295M
GOLDBERG, 310M
EISENHUT, 310M
In the vineyards, harmony overrules appearance and instead of sterile order, there is space for growth and diversity. Arnold Holzer’s work is defined by a delicate touch and targeted intervention. He does not train his vines; he guides them – all the while, leaving nature its rightful share of space.
WINES
Arnold Holzer’s wines range between the classic and free-spirited. These are low intervention wines, yet nothing is left to chance. His unconventional wines remain accessible, while the classics have a personality of their own – but both share the same freshness, the same exuberance and Holzer’s clear, individual signature.
